玉山杜鵑花開五月時，總吸引許多登山客親臨觀賞。在俊秀高山的陪襯，恣意綻放的玉山杜鵑別有風情。作者以鈍拙的筆法及樸實的色調，表現有異於平地鮮花少有的厚實感與峻秀美。
