在這個消費社會唯一留下的符號就是粉紅色的霓虹燈，不論是在泳池畔吧台、洗車店、檳榔攤或台灣茶室工作的辣妹是沒有任何差別，在這種男性導向的消費空間，她們都變成取悅男性的展示品。
年輕女性的影像在此不只控制了性別關係，亦給予消費活動新的意涵，這些象徵的人物需要依據觀眾，也就是男性所制定的法則。 女性的身軀可說是男性沙文主義的受害符號，或是展現女性的自覺和表現情慾，這全依每個人如何去閱讀她們，換言之，日後我們若以不同的方式來觀看，就能賦予影像新的意義。 然而，今日就像是檳榔仔被葉子包裹起來，它掠取我們的目光，也抓住我們的心靈。

Spicy Reading
A certain sign that, in this consuming society, there is nothing left but the pinky neon lights. There is no difference between the spicy girls in the pool bar, car washing shop, betel nut booth, or Taiwanese teashop; within such male oriented consuming spaces, they all become the display figures for, and images of, pleasure.
Women’s bodies can be the sign of masculinity suffering, or the display of women’s self-awareness and sexual expression, depending on how, today, we each individually read them. In another words, we can give the images new meaning by our different ways of reading the performances in the future. Today however, as the Betel-nut is bound by its leaves, it binds our sight, and it also binds our mind.
